This Congress
is held under the Auspices of the International Association of Bioethics
The
World Congress of Bioethics is a Congress of the International Association of
Bioethics, whose objectives are:
- To facilitate contacts and the
exchange of information between those working in bioethics in different
parts of the world;
- To organise and promote
international conferences in bioethics;
- To encourage the development of
research and teaching in bioethics; and
- To uphold the value of free,
open and reasoned discussion of issues in bioethics.
Bioethics Advisory Committee

The Bioethics
Advisory Committee was established by the Government in December 2000 to
examine ethical, legal and social issues arising from life sciences and biomedical
research in Singapore, and to recommend policies concerning these issues to the
Steering Committee on Life Sciences. The BAC has so far published recommendations
on human cloning and stem cell research, human tissue research, research
involving human subjects, genetic testing and genetic research, personal
information in biomedical research, and the donation of human eggs for
research. It is currently considering issues on human-animal combinations for research.

Centre
for
Biomedical Ethics
National
University
of Singapore
The
National University of Singapore, Centre for Biomedical Ethics was established in September 2006 in the Yong
Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Centre is South East Asia’s
first academic centre for biomedical ethics in a medical school, with a
dedicated professor supported by a team of researchers. It seeks to become a
major location for teaching and research in South East
Asia and its main focus will be on ethical values in an Asian
context.
