The 10th World Congress of Bioethics (WCB) attracted over 600
participants from 55 countries, and was officially opened by the President of the
Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Mr SR Nathan.
At the opening ceremony,
Professor John Wong, Dean of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the
National University of Singapore, presented the Benjamin
Chew Medals, for Medical Ethics, which are awarded annually to medical
students who
performed best in medical ethics and health law in the fourth year of
their
studies at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of
Singapore. Gold
Medal Recipient: Ms Samantha Rachel Yeo
Silver
Medal Recipient: Ms Yeo Pei Shan
The Mark
S. Ehrenreich Prize in Healthcare Ethics Research was also presented at the
opening ceremony, by Professor Alexander Capron, University Professor and
Co-Director of the Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics at the
University of Southern California (USA), for the most outstanding paper

A welcome dinner for the 10th
WCB delegates was held at Science Centre Singapore (SCS), in conjunction with
the launch of the bioethics exhibition. The event was graced by Minister for
Health Mr Khaw Boon Wan. The project, which forms part of the permanent
exhibition at SCS and is expected to last for at least five years, was a
collaborative effort by SCS, BAC, and CBmE. To learn more about the bioethics

The 11th WCB is to be held in
Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in 2012.
